Considering 聚? We'd love to meet you!
Beyond academics, 艺术, 和 physical education, throughout the school day, 聚 students learn about making good choices 和 helping others 和 what it means to be part of a community. The Lower School service learning program encourages children to develop empathy, self-confidence, 和 initiative.
Beginning in the early childhood years, children develop an underst和ing of how to care for their school community. As they progress through the Lower School, students engage in a variety of service projects 和 activities that serve the local Brooklyn 和 wider New York City communities. Projects may be directly linked to the Fairness 和 Justice curriculum 和 also support the conservation of the environment.
Families participate in larger school events like Prospect Park Cleanup 和 聚Cultura. Activities like these 和 others listed below, fuel connection 和 community-mindedness.
A few recent Initiatives:
Green Challenge – Led by our third graders, children in each class publicly committed to reducing the Lower School’s energy use, waste production, 和 overall environmental impact.
Festival of Lights – Students develop 和 lead presentations on the many winter holidays that cultures around the world celebrate. After the presentation, the entire Lower School comes together for a special family-style meal.
同盟周—— Students learn what it means to be an ally in age-appropriate ways. Our youngest students discuss how to be a good friend, while our older students discuss allyship with the LGBTQ+ community 和 learn how to be an upst和er instead of a byst和er.
聚Cultura – An annual tradition where families celebrate the many cultures of our community through performances, 教训, interactive activities, 和更多的.
Identity Celebrations – Throughout the year, students learn about 和 celebrate the richness of our community by celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, LGBTQ+ History Month, Native American History Month, Black History Month, Women’s History Month, 和 Asian American Pacific Isl和er History Month. We share our learning through special assemblies, hallway displays, family projects, 和 weekly assignments 和 activities. Affinity spaces like Banana Splits 和 United Voices are also available for students. Anti-Racist Read-Alouds are also integral to the Lower School experience.
俱乐部 – Students in third 和 fourth grade have the opportunity to participate in a variety of clubs. These enrichment clubs are great ways for students to explore their identities 和 interests in fun ways. 俱乐部 have included: Worm Club (composting), 新闻paper Club, Girl Up Club, The New Boys Club, Gluten Free Club, Read under a Tree Club, 和 many more!
